Wangari Maathai |
Yesterday, the first female African Nobel Laureate,
Wangari Maathai, passed away.
She was one of the pioneers for environmentally conscious social movements on the continent.
She is the woman who founded the Green Belt Movement, an environmentally conscious organisation that undertook environmental campaigns that also sought to empower the people of her country, Kenya, and the rest of Africa.
She was also a staunch fighter for women's rights.
We were so sad to hear of her passing. But she remains an inspiration and a role-model, not just for African people, but for everyone.
She has done amazing things, and hopefully her work and dreams will continue.
