Some of us at Melodi have developed a minor obsession with 'Big Brother Africa Amplified'.
For those of you who aren't familiar with the show; it is a 24/7 live reality-show where individuals from across Africa are sequestered in a house (this season two houses) and they are cut-off completely from the outside world. That means no T.V., cellphones, internet, radio or even clocks.
These people (called housemates) go through a series of nominations, votings and evictions every week until there is one person left who goes home with the big prize.
What differentiates this show from others is that it is live 24/7. The influence of directors and producers to cut & edit the show to portray people and events in a certain way is minimised. So viewers get to see the 'real' thing, as far as any reality show can be real.
What makes the show so addictive is it is indicative of people's behaviour, just on a smaller scale.
Put a big prize in front of people and watch all manner of human emotions on display; greed, envy, loyalty, manipulation, romance, lust, pretence etc.
But, it is not clear exactly what can be said about those of us who love watching all the plotting and scheming go down.
Except that maybe our voyeuritic tendencies are amplified, hence the show title 'Big Brother Amplified'. :)
