Cream Cartel
The South African fashion design group, Cream Cartel, recently proclaimed themselves as the prophets of fashion on a South African magazine T.V. show.
The group entered the spotlight a few years ago through their reality show 'Cream Cartel' on one of South Africa's cable channels.
They are known for their colourful, loud, street-wear ensambles. Their style is not for the faint-hearted, the elegant or the professional.
As for them being prophets of fashion - few would disagree with them, in the South African context. The cartel represents urban, youth sub-cultures - and most designers will confess to getting a lot of their inspiration from what people are wearing on the streets.
But for all the fame and exposure the Cartel has had, by now their designs should be selling at major retailers all over the country. They should be show-casing their lines at the major South African fashion weeks and making plans to get themselves to New York Fashion Week. They seem to be riding the wave of their fame, and not cashing it in.
