Our Impressions of The Grammy's

As you know, the Grammys took place in Los Angeles last weekend.

The big winner that night was British artist Adele who walked away with every award that she was nominated for. This is a huge coup for Adele, not just because it is the Grammy's (the biggest music event in the world), but because she had been snubbed at other major music awards in the past couple of months. So to win Grammy's was a huge acknowledgement of her singing skill and songwriting talent.
We are excited by her wins because it means that raw talent still means something in the business. For too many years artists full of gimmicks (we won't name names) have been dominating the music industry. Finally an artist is being recognised for talent, and not for their brilliant marketing and management.
Her performance of 'Rolling In The Deep' was also breathtaking, receiving the standing ovation it deserved.

One of the other highlights of the night for us was Bruno Mars' retro perfomance. It was fun and entertaining. We love his 1950's inspired song, performance and outfit.

We did not really get Bon Iver's award for Best Newcomer, but that is more a matter of taste than anything else.

Another highlight was Coldplay with their latest hit 'Paradise'.
Although, it has to be said that lead singer Chris Martin's voice does not sound as ethereal live as it does recorded, but the performance was still good.

Besides for a couple of other exciting moments, the event was not very memorable. Host Ll Cool J did not bring anything special to the show, some of the performances were lackluster, and after a while the anticipation of seeing the winners for each category wore off.

It may have been because the event was held the day after Whitney Houston passed away and people were in a sombre mood. But, Jennifer Hudson performed a very touching tribute to the icon by signing one of her biggest hits, 'I Will Always Love You.'
