Yesterday, 18 July 2011, was Nelson Mandela's 93rd birthday.
In recognition of his contribution to South Africa's freedom and democracy, people lobbied to have his birthday be recognised as an important date internationally. As a result, the United Nations have declared 18 July to be International Mandela Day.
And in South Africa, people are encouraged to give 67 minutes of their time to charity in recognition of the 67 years that Nelson Mandela gave to the struggle for freedom in South Africa.
We hope Madiba had a beautiful birthday yesterday, and wish to have him with us for many more healthy years.
